how do you adjust the brightness shadows
or highlights of a video in davinci
resolve let me show you in just a moment
let's do it
[Music]
okay here we are in davinci resolve's
edit page
and i have this clip where it's a little
bit overexposed
you know i've done about a hundred
videos so far and i've never
bothered to adjust the brightness of
any of my clips because i just never
knew how to do it
and i just never bothered looking for
the controls for it but don't be like me
and wait for over 100 videos to start
adjusting
your brightness it's actually very very
easy
all right i have this clip here that's
pretty overexposed because it was a very
bright
sunny day so what i want to do is turn
down the brightness of this shot
what we have to do is go to the color
tab or page
we are now in the color page and make
sure
this is highlighted and for some reason
davinci resolve made it kind of hard to
find these controls
for the brightness and other things like
hue
and saturation contrast it's all down
here just look down in this little
section
on the lower left and that's where it is
you can control different things here
but
the brightness is not even on this
section it's on the number two toggle
so let's click two and now
we have extra controls here and the ones
we need are
shadow and hl which is highlights
so da vinci doesn't even call it
brightness it
splits the brightness control between
shadows meaning sort of the darker areas
and highlights which is controlling the
brightness
of the light areas the white areas so
it's not a simple control for just
brightness you need to control the
shadow and the highlights okay let me
show you
so for the shadow it's going to control
mostly the dark areas
if you click here and drag right
to lighten up the shadows see that
or left to darken up the shadows
to make the darker areas darker and for
the highlights do the same thing
click here and drag right or left
but that's way too much so let's bring
it down
and that's maximum negative 100 but i
need it lighter than that
i guess this looks good controlling the
brightness and davinci resolve
means you're controlling the shadows the
darker areas
and the light areas with highlights
it's very simple to do it's eluded me
for a hundred videos until now
um now i know where to find it so there
you go you just go to the color page
go to the number two toggle and just
adjust the shadow
and the highlight values until you get
what you want
for your brightness and that concludes
