hi when using video editors in this case
DaVinci Resolve
I've never liked the look of sharp
rectangular edges and corners when I
overlay a video over another video I
found a very easy way to make this
picture-in-picture effect look much
better let me show you in just a moment
let's do it
okay so here we are in the da Vinci edit
page the mean edit page so let's start
with dragging my background video clip
on video track 1 and let me right click
and add another track and also let's add
a audio track down here stereo so now I
can bring down a second clip to overlay
or superimpose it in front of this sort
of now background image so what I'll do
now is drag my secondary video clip over
to video 2 video 2 is fullscreen so it's
covering video 1 so what I'll do now to
make this a picture-in-picture effect or
overlay is lower the zoom go to
transform under inspector transform drag
the zoom down now you can size it
however way you want let's just say like
that in the past I've done this many
times and I've just left it as is but I
was never fully happy with how sharp the
edges and the corners are it's just so
stark for me and I've done it in the
past didn't edit it and I was never
fully happy with it and now I have a new
technique to make it look nicer it's
really simple it's quick and easy you
don't have to use fusion or the color
tab so all you have to do is go to the
inspector under cropping double click
that and down here it's called softness
you can adjust the edging with softness
I had no clue that this kind of control
would be under cropping but I found it
here and when I played around with it I
liked how it looked so if I drag this to
the left it blurs the edge it softens
the edge so for me I like a slightly
blurred edge than that sharp edge this
is that sharp edge and slightly blurred
is about say minus 6 minus 5 so for me
that looks better than the sharp edge
and so that's how I'll be do
most of my picture and picture effects
in the future and so just to give you a
view on how it looks like fullscreen
here we go full screen control F to make
it fullscreen and play you see that I
just like that soft edge now compared to
the hard edge from before and I hope
this provides you a solution for those
of you who also didn't like those stark
hard edges of the rectangular box and
