Easily Add Smart Dynamic Login Logout Menu Links and MemberPress Integration

This is how you can easily add a dynamic LOG IN and LOG OUT link to your WordPress Website's Menu without coding

We will be using a smart plugin that knows whether the visitor is logged in or logged out and correctly shows the appropriate link. For example, if the user is logged in, it will show the Log Out link and vice versa.

The plugin is called BAW Login/Logout Menu, and the great thing is it is completely free. It hasn't been updated in 4 years, yet it is widely used, which means it's kind of like a perfectly coded plugin, that is simple and never needs updating.

In addition, we will see how this plugin works beautifully with MemberPress to customize the Login page rather than using the very plain WordPress default.

Let's get started.

First, navigate to WordPress dashboard > Plugins, Add New, and type "BAW login logout menu" in the Search field. Install the one by Juliobox.

Once installed and activated, go to Appearance > Menus, and under the Add Menu Items you will see a new entry at the bottom named Login/Logout links v1.3.3. Click the arrow down.

Place a check on the box for Log In|Log Out and click Add to Menu.

You should see it now on the Menu Structure for your Main Menu, at the bottom. You can drag it to where you want it positioned. Click Save Menu.

This is what my site menu looks like before the plugin.

This is what it looks like after setting up the plugin. It adds the LOG IN link to the right of my menu, which is where I positioned it. If I were logged in, the link would say LOG OUT.

When I click on LOG IN, I will see the standard WordPress login content box.

And when I click Log in with username and password, I will see the basic WordPress login form, which is totally NOT how I want my login form to look. I do not want the WordPress branding and the style doesn't match my website.

Since this site will be a membership site and I've chosen what I believe is the best WordPress membership plugin in 2019 - MemberPress, I will show you how to integrate the login form to work with MemberPress.

In your WordPress dashboard, go to MemberPress > Options. If you haven't set this up before you will see the following for the Pages tab defaulting "Auto Create New Page" for Reserved Pages Thank You, Account and Login.

Allow MemberPress to create these 3 pages by clicking Update Option down below.

Once done, it will show you that the Thank You, Account, Login are already showing up in the respective fields. You can Edit or View the pages

Next go to MemberPress > Options again and this time click on the Account tab.

Place a check on the Force WordPress to use the MemberPress login page. You can also point users to go to certain URL / internet addresses if you wish. Click Update Options button.

And that's it! You've added a smart dynamic LOG IN / LOG OUT page to your WordPress membership site. It will look like the follow image. It's a bit basic but it's much better than the default WordPress style login.

You can even edit your Login page to look like the following colored form with rounded corners, or however you want it to look if you have Thrive Themes like I do. But I'll cover that customization in another video/blog.

how to add a smart login or logout link

in the menu

welcome to sharing your passion comm I

appear we're going to add a login or

logout here one that is smart if you are

logged out it will say login and if you

are logged in it will say logout I was

going to spend hours on this yesterday

until I found a solution I mean there's

all kinds of ways to do this if you

search Google WordPress log in log out

link in the menu you'll find all kinds

of stuff like for example here's my

search and these are the results and a

lot of this requires code getting into

the code like this is a second result

and yeah you have to add code to your

WordPress so what we're going to do is

add a plug-in so you don't need to code

at all okay we're so the other thing

we're going to do in this lesson is

integrate that with member press because

this plug-in works well with member

press it'll work with that without it

but it works nicely with member press if

that's what you'll be using which is a

good good membership plug-in okay let's

get started so let's go to our dashboard

and go to plugins add new

so this particular plugin is called bow

I've tried some of these other plugins

and they just installed too many things

and they're going to try to sell you

something down the road so this one is

just completely free it hasn't been

updated for four years and it's not

tested with my version of WordPress

which is the most recent 15.2 I think

but it works it totally works and 30,000

active installations and it's got really

high marks so let's install this oh by

the way it's by Julio box install and

activate okay next we need to go to our

menu let's go to appearance menus okay

on this left side here you'll see a new

item login logout links version 1.3 okay

let's look in there you could have a

fixed login or you could have a fixed

logout but what we're looking for is the

smart login logout right here click that

add to menu

there it is at the very end it's gonna

be on the extreme right save okay it's

saved so let's go check it ok actually

let's check it where I'm not logged in

as an admin let me use a different

browser

okay so this is what my page looks like

before I install that plug-in and

activated it so now I'm going to refresh

and let's pay attention to this area

here refresh okay there we see a new

was and this is smart it knows I'm not

logged in in this browser it will show

me a login link

now if I were logged in it's smart

enough to know and it will show me a log

out link so the only problem is if

you're using this by itself and you

click login it's gonna take you to the

not-so-nice basic default WordPress

default the wordpress.com login I mean

what's the use I'm not gonna sign up for

their login so of course you'd use login

with username and password now this is

our normal login form okay so this looks

pretty you know bare and and there's no

menus or anything here so this plugin

works beautifully with member press

which is my membership plug-in that I'm

going to control access to different

parts of my website I'm going to have a

free area and a free member area of

those who have registered with their

email a name but haven't but don't need

to pay and I'm gonna have a paid premium

area so member press can't can do that

for you let me show you how this works

really well with member press let's go

back to our dashboard okay

member press options if you haven't

already done so member press needs three

main pages a Thank You page an account

page

and a login page if you haven't done

this already it will Auto create itself

at some point when you're using member

pressed login features so it did that

for me this was initially defaulted to

Auto create new page four thank you and

this was defaulted to Auto create new

page four account and this is your Auto

create new page four login so this was a

default and I went over here account and

go down here to login and logout force

WordPress to use member press login page

so click that and once you update those

pages will be created for you but I've

already gone through that process so

I'll just leave this as is thank you

account login so go back here and make

sure that's clicked and update option

saved okay let's go back to where I was

not logged in okay here we are

so this is what it was by default after

installing the baw log in log out menu

plug-in so let's go back out here this

is my main page and now I'm going to

refresh I'm still not logged in okay so

let's click this now but I've activated

the force system to use the WordPress

so much nicer now right before you two

look like this and now because I've

activated

member press login to work with with

this new plugin all the links that go to

with your header menu and your footer

okay so that's how you add a smart log

in log out link in your menu and to pair

it with member press plug-in to have it

take your theme and not look like your

default login page from WordPress so
