How to add a Circle, Square, Rectangle or other Shapes to Highlight Video – DaVinci Resolve 16

hi in this video we are going to add a

red circle to highlight a specific area

like this in DaVinci Resolve 16 hi

this is chill and let's get it on okay

here we are in the Vinci resolve 16 and

I have a six second clip from a beach

scene and this lady is going to fall

into the water backwards and I want to

bring attention to her with a red circle

around her so eyeballs are on her

because she's the most interesting part

of this scene let me play the scene for

you unedited

okay so it takes her a little backward

dip there and let's go back to the first

frame so what we need here is a

transparency a transparent red circle

here's a hand-drawn kind of circle and

here's a machine drawn kind of circle

let's try it with this hand drawn circle

so this is a transparency it's a PNG all

it is is a red circle with a transparent

background okay so what we need to do is

find the point where we want to create

the circle around her to bring the

attention to her so let's play this

right about now is a good time to put

the circle around her so I have this

hand drawn well it looks like hand drawn

transparent red circle let's just drag

that over here to the video to right

above that point okay this is the size

of that graphic but we can always adjust

it with our zoom and position so let's

reduce the size and let's

and let's move the position x axis to

the left and dragging to the left and Y

vertical axis you can drag right I'll go

higher left lower and that's good but

the default duration for this image is

too long because watch let's play that

she moves out a circle then it's too

long so let's just grab the end of that

graphic bring it to the left look at

that you can see her okay see and let's

just keep it there that's enough okay

let's play that again with the red

circle now there it is

eyes on her there so that's how we do it

okay of course we're not limited to just

red circles we can do triangles

rectangles any kind of shape and even

arrows here let me show you a different

shape let's use this arrow to replace

this as a highlighter

okay let's drag this arrow to replace

that circle

okay and it's too long and it's too big

first of all let's reduce the size soom

out and it's too long so let's grab the

right side and shrink it down okay now

let's reposition that arrow near her and

bring it down okay let's try this let's

play it that works let's replay it from

the very beginning

yeah see that works an arrow or a circle

rectangle whatever you wish to use the

key thing is you need a transparent

graphic and by transparent means the

background of this image is transparent

it'll just show whatever you have on the

main clip and only the red parts will

come out I'll be putting a link in the
